Government rejects proposal for new university in Karlovy Vary Region
The Czech government has, as expected, rejected a proposal from the Karlovy Vary Region to establish a new public university. Education Minister Mikuláš Bek (STAN) said the government supports higher education in the region but prefers other forms, such as a university institute proposed by the University of West Bohemia. Regional Governor Jana Mračková Vildumetzová (ANO) insists the region’s plan is legally sound and hopes Parliament will still approve it. Karlovy Vary remains the only Czech region without a public university headquartered there.
