FM Lipavský: US president Trump pleased with NATO spending boost

U.S. President Donald Trump appeared pleased at the NATO summit in The Hague, according to Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavský (non-partisan), after allies agreed to raise defense spending to 5% of GDP. Lipavský called the summit “very successful” and praised President Petr Pavel for helping convince Trump during a two-hour dinner conversation hosted by the Dutch royal couple. “It’s a great success for our country. We can be proud,” Lipavský said, adding that the agreement proves Czechia is pursuing sound foreign policy.

Defense Minister Jana Černochová (Civic Democratic Party) described the summit as a turning point, particularly in terms of military preparedness and defense commitments. She highlighted the adoption of new alliance obligations aimed at strengthening NATO’s collective security. Czechia, she noted, is ready to meet its share of those responsibilities.
