Czech Railways dispatch third evacuation train for Ukrainian refugees
Czech Railways have dispatched an evacuation train packed with humanitarian supplies to Ukraine’s border with Slovakia where thousands of refugees fleeing the war are waiting to be taken to safety. The train is expected to return to the Czech Republic on Monday afternoon with 600 refugees. It is the third evacuation train dispatched from Prague. The other two travelled to the Polish-Ukrainian border which is crossed by some 100,000 refugees daily.
Czech NGOs and individuals have been helping distribute humanitarian aid both at the Polish and Slovak border and some have even travelled inland into Ukraine to pick up refugees some of whom are walking long distances on foot to get to safety. Prime Minister Petr Fiala thanked the public for the show of solidarity on Sunday but appealed for individuals to coordinate their efforts with the NGOs on the ground.
