Czech film Waves fails to win Oscar nomination for best international picture
The Czech film Waves (Vlny), written and directed by Jiří Mádl, lost out on the Oscar nomination in the Best Foreign Film category. The nominees for the upcoming 97th Oscars ceremony were announced by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences on Thursday.
The film Waves, set against the backdrop of the Prague Spring and the 1968 Warsaw Pact invasion of Czechoslovakia, is being touted as one of the biggest Czech film successes in recent years.
The Czech short film Compatriot (Krajan), directed by Viktor Horák and Pavel Sýkora, also failed to receive a nomination.
