Czech Lions to be presented in Prague, film Vlny (‘Waves’) has most nominations
The Czech Lion Awards will be presented at Prague's Rudolfinum on Saturday evening, at which twenty-nine film and television titles will compete for the awards of the Czech Film and Television Academy (ČFTA). The crystal statuettes can be won in twenty-two different categories.
The most nominations, fourteen, including a nomination for best feature film for 2024, are for the period drama Vlny (‘Waves’). The film by director Jiří Mádl depicts the events of 1968, when Czechoslovakia experienced the Prague Spring and then the invasion of Warsaw Pact troops. Director Viktor Tauš's film Amerikánka, inspired by the true story of a girl who went through institutional care during the Normalisation period, follows with thirteen nominations.
