Czech duo knock Williams sisters out in first round of US Open
Linda Nosková and Lucie Hradecká knocked Serena and Venus Williams out in the first round of the women’s doubles competition of the US Open in New York on Thursday. The Czech pair beat the Williams sisters 7-6 6-4 in what is expected to be their last foray in the doubles together. Nosková is 17 while Hradecká is 20 years older.
In the singles Petra Kvitová and Karolína Plíšková are the only Czechs to make it into the third round. Kvitová advanced after Anhelina Kalinina of Ukraine withdrew. Plíšková beat compatriot Marie Bouzková 6-3 6-2.
