Tennis: Kvitová and Plíšková through to US Open fourth round
Czech tennis player Petra Kvitová has advanced to the fourth round of the US Open for the seventh time in her career after saving two match points to beat Spain’s Garbiñe Muguruza 5-7, 6-3, 7-6 on Saturday. The 32-year old Czech seed No. 21 will next face Jessica Pegula of the US.
Another Czech player to advance to US Open round of 16 is Karolína Plíšková, who defeated Belinda Bencic of Switzerland 5-7, 6-4, 6-3
The Czech duo Linda Nosková and Lucie Hradecká, who defeated Serena and Venus Williams in the first round of the women’s doubles competition, were knocked out in the second round by Alexa Guarachi of Chile and Andreja Klepac of Slovenia.
