Czech defence ministry approves purchase of 44 Leopard 2A8 tanks for CZK 34.25 billion

The Czech Defence Ministry has approved the first phase of its Leopard 2A8 tank acquisition, ordering 44 command and battle tanks for CZK 34.25 billion, including customisation for the Czech Army. An additional CZK 5 billion will be set aside as an inflation and currency reserve. Deliveries are expected between 2028 and 2031. The deal, to be signed directly with manufacturer KNDS, includes protective systems, logistics support, and ammunition for trials. The framework allows for up to 77 tanks in total, with Czech industry involved in component production and lifecycle support worth at least CZK 1.3 billion, potentially rising to CZK 6.6 billion.
