Czech audit office questions effectiveness of EU-funded projects

Czechia often spends European Union funding on projects with limited benefits, despite complying with formal rules, according to a new report by the Supreme Audit Office. Reviewing 14 audits, the watchdog said support should focus on fewer strategic priorities and projects should be assessed for measurable results. It cited 5.3 billion crowns invested in clean mobility, despite Czechia remaining among the EU’s weakest performers in electric vehicle adoption. Another 26 billion crowns in energy-saving and renewable projects had only a negligible effect on industrial and service-sector energy consumption, the office said. Czechia is due to receive more than 1.3 trillion crowns in EU funding for 2021–2027.
