Culture Ministry interested in buying writer Bohumil Hrabal’s home in Kersko

The Ministry of Culture is considering purchasing the summer holiday home of deceased writer Bohumil Hrabal in Kersko, the Czech News Agency reported on Thursday. The news comes shortly after the house was discovered to have been placed on the market for CZK 11.9 million, by the current owners – Hrabal’s former neighbours.

Culture Ministry spokeswoman Michaela Lagronová said that the ministry will discuss the possible purchase with other partners, such as the local regional administration. The idea, she said, comes from Culture Minister Lubomír Zaorálek, who considers Hrabal to have been one of the most important Czech authors of the twentieth century.
