Communist-era dissident Petr Uhl dies at 80

Leading Communist-era dissident Petr Uhl has died at the age of 80. He was a co-founder of the Charter 77 human rights movement and was also a key member of the Committee for the Defence of the Unjustly Prosecuted. He was jailed twice by the Communists, serving a total of nine years.

After the revolution Uhl, who was a left-winger, served as an MP for Civic Forum as well as government commissioner for human rights. He also worked as a journalist.
