Last farewell to dissident Petr Uhl to be held in Prague

The funeral service for leading Communist era dissident Petr Uhl, who died last week at the age of 80, will be held at Prague’s Strašnice crematorium on Friday.

Mr Uhl was a co-founder of the Charter 77 human rights movement and a key member of the Committee for the Defence of the Unjustly Prosecuted. He was jailed twice by the Communists, serving a total of nine years. After the revolution he served as an MP for Civic Forum as well as government commissioner for human rights.

The service, which symbolically takes place on Human Rights Day, will be open to the public.
