Candidates for Czech European Court of Human Rights judge approved by government
The government approved a candidate list for the position of judge on the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) on Monday. Supreme Court Judge Pavel Simon, Constitutional Judge Kateřina Šimáčková and Supreme Administrative Court Judge Tomáš Langášek have been selected by the government and the list will now be sent to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Justice Minister Marie Benešová announced.
The assembly will then vote for the successor to current Czech ECHR Judge Aleš Pejchal, whose nine-year-long mandate is set to run out on October 31.
The ECHR is an international court of the Council of Europe which interprets the European Convention on Human Rights.
