Zeman critical of judges over opposition to pay-freeze

The Czech president, Miloš Zeman, has questioned opposition from judges and state prosecutors to a one-year freeze on their salaries. Speaking after appointing a number of new judges at his Lány residence on Tuesday, Mr. Zeman said he was exceedingly polite and would therefore not use the term “greed” in connection with protests against the planned freeze, which also applies to MPs and senators.

The head of state asked why regular judges were complaining when they make CZK 100,000 a month. Head judges get twice that, he said.
