Young Prague music festival bringing international musicians to Czech capital

Young Prague music festival

On Tuesday evening a classical concert takes place at Bertramka, the charming villa where Mozart stayed several times on visits to Prague; it's part of the Mlada Praha (Young Prague) music festival, which began on Monday and runs until the 31st.

The festival - now in its 12th year - brings talented young musicians and singers to the Czech capital from around the world. Many of the performers at this year's Mlada Praha are from Japan, reflecting both the fact Japanese companies were among the festival's early sponsors, and the great renown of Czech classical music in the Land of the Rising Sun.

The opening concert on Monday afternoon featured the Young Prague Chamber Ensemble performing pieces by Mozart, Antonin Dvorak and Richard Strauss, and took place in the leafy surroundings of the Valdstejn Palace Garden.

Other venues for the Young Prague festival are the Clementinum's Mirror Chapel, the Dvorak Hall and St Salvatore's Church, though not all the concerts are taking place in the capital. You can find the programme at www.mladapraha.cz
