Two Afghans convicted in Germany for planning attack, sought weapons in Czechia

A German court has sentenced two Afghan nationals for planning a terrorist attack on the Swedish parliament. According to DPA, the two men attempted to buy weapons in Germany and Czechia, but were unsuccessful.

The men, linked to the Islamic State terrorist organisation, planned the attack in retaliation for Koran burnings in Sweden. Arrested last March, they were found guilty of supporting terrorism and conspiracy to commit murder.

After failing to get weapons in Germany, they targeted the Czech black market, but were detained after police checked their phones. They had been under surveillance by Germany’s secret service.
