Tropical night recorded across a fifth of Czechia as heatwave continues

Around one fifth of Czech weather stations recorded a tropical night from Friday into Saturday, with temperatures staying above 20 degrees Celsius until morning, the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute has said. Such conditions were reported across almost the entire country, from lowlands to mountain areas.

The warmest night was recorded in central Prague, where temperatures at the Klementinum weather station did not fall below 23.7 degrees Celsius. Forecasters expect tropical nights to continue through Sunday and Monday, with overnight temperatures in some parts of Moravia remaining above 25 degrees.

Czechia has been experiencing an intense heatwave in recent days, with meteorologists warning that the country's all-time temperature record of 40.4 degrees Celsius, set in August 2012, could be broken later on Saturday.
