Traditional “burčák season” to come late this year

The traditional “burčák season” of partially fermented young wine will be delayed by about three weeks this year, according to wine growers and experts. They say the unseasonably cold weather in May and the scorching heatwave in July slowed the ripening of grapes in southern Moravia. Although by law burčák can be sold from August 1, this year the first bottles will probably not appear until around  August 20. The young wine, a celebration of the grape harvest, is sold on the streets of Prague and other cities and is accompanied by outdoor festivities.
