Up to three million parcels delivered per day over another record-breaking Christmas in Czechia

Czech courier and delivery companies have once again experienced unprecedented growth during the Christmas season, breaking almost all historical records.

All major companies in the Czech delivering sector are reporting record figures for this Christmas season, with some days in December seeing three million parcels delivered per day in total.

"The numbers show that this season is once again a record-breaking one. We have already processed more than a million parcels in a single day several times. This year's record was achieved on Monday December 16th, with 1.1 million parcels processed," said Tereza Kotková, PR manager for Zásilkovna.

This modern phenomenon, which is largely explained by the growing boom in online shopping both globally and in Czechia, also saw a new record for the DPD group, which transported around 700,000 parcels on December 16th and 17th.

"Compared with the slowest days this year, this is an increase of more than 100%, and compared with last year's peak, this is approximately 15% more," said DPD's national general manager, Miloš Malaník.

The same is true for GLS, whose Czech subsidiary also managed to achieve the highest number of shipments processed in one day in its entire history. It was not only the delivery companies that had an incredible festive season, but also Czech Post. At this December’s peak, customers handed over 430,000 parcels to its offices for dispatch in one day – about 180,000 more parcels than the average daily figure for November.

"Compared with the strongest day of last year, December 11th, this means an increase of 33,000 parcels," said Matyáš Vitík, spokesman for Czech Post.
