Terezín remembrance ceremony cancelled for first time since 1946
The annual memorial ceremony at the former Terezín concentration camp has been cancelled for the first time since 1946. The event, traditionally held on the third Sunday in May, has been moved to mid-October due to the Covid-19 crisis.
Between 1940 and 1945, more than 150,000 people, most of them Jews, were interned in the Terezín ghetto, the antechamber of the Nazi extermination camp. About 117,000 did not survive the war.
