Tennis: Vondroušová loses to Swiatek in first match of WTA Finals
Czech tennis player Markéta Vondroušová was defeated by Poland’s Iga Swiatek in her first match of the WTA Finals in Cancun, Mexico. The Wimbledon Champion lost 6-7, 0-6 in one hour and 40 minutes.
The 24-year-old Czech will also play against American Cori Gauff and Tunisian Uns Dzhabir in the four-member Chetumal group. The top two will advance to the semi-finals.
In doubles, the Czech pair Barbora Krejčíková and Kateřina Siniaková will make their tournament debut on Tuesday against Vera Zvonareva and Laura Siegemund.
