Tennis: Linda Nosková reaches Beijing semifinals, set to become Czech No. 1
Linda Nosková has advanced to the semifinals of the tennis tournament in Beijing and is poised to become the new Czech women’s No. 1. The 19-year-old defeated Britain’s Sonay Kartal 6–3, 6–4 on the Chinese hard courts. In the battle for a place in the final, Nosková will face either fifth seed Jessica Pegula of the United States or her compatriot, 16th seed Emma Navarro.
Following the win, Nosková has climbed to a career-high provisional 19th place in the WTA rankings. She is expected to overtake Karolína Muchová as the top-ranked Czech player next week.
