Tennis: Jakub Menšík withdraws from Paris Masters

Czech tennis player Jakub Menšík has withdrawn from the Paris Masters, which begins Monday, and announced the end of his tournament season. The 20-year-old said on Instagram that he plans to play only in the Davis Cup this year. Menšík had been scheduled to face Francisco Cerúndolo of Argentina in the first round in Paris but pulled out after a foot injury forced him to retire from last week’s Basel tournament.

Currently ranked 19th in the world and second among Czech players behind Jiří Lehečka (17th), Menšík highlighted his March triumph at the Miami Masters as the season’s peak. He finishes the year with a 31–20 win-loss record, reaching the third round at both the Australian Open and Wimbledon.
