Telč – a Renaissance gem

Zachary of Hradec Square, Telč

In 1992 the historic core of the town was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Telč is a picturesque town, located on the border of Bohemia and Moravia, whose genius loci and  architecture attracts visitors from at home and abroad.  National Geographic magazine ranked it among the 25 top travel destinations for 2020.

Visitors to the town of 5,000 inhabitants will be captivated by its charming main square, lined with Gothic and Renaissance burgher houses with arcades and richly decorated gables and sgraffito. The town's Gothic castle was reconstructed in High Gothic style in the late 15th century.

Telč is one of the best preserved Renaissance towns also due to the three surrounding fish-ponds that prevented the town from spreading.
