SZ: Czech billionaire Strnad offers €30 billion for Italian holding Delfin
Czech billionaire Michal Strnad, owner of defence group Czechoslovak Group, has offered 30 billion euros, or about 730 billion crowns, to acquire Italian family holding Delfin, according to Seznam Zprávy. Delfin owns major stakes in eyewear giant EssilorLuxottica, behind Ray-Ban and Oakley, as well as banks and insurer Generali. The news website reports that financing such a large acquisition remains uncertain. Strnad plans to seek backing from investors and European financial institutions. One of the heirs of founder Leonardo Del Vecchio has rejected the offer, saying the family business should remain in Italian hands.
