Slavia win Czech football league after four-year break
Slavia Prague won the Czech league title on Saturday night with a 5–0 win in Olomouc in the opening round of the championship group. They lead the incomplete standings by 16 points ahead of Plzeň, who can no longer catch them.
Vasil Kušej scored his first league hat-trick, while Tomáš Chorý, a former Sigma player, added two goals.
This is Slavia’s eighth league title since the start of the independent Czech competition and the fourth under coach Jindřich Trpišovský. They finished second in each of the last three seasons. Sparta remain the most successful club in the Czech league era with 14 titles, including the previous two.
Slavia have qualified for the group stage of next season’s Champions League. They will receive the trophy after their final home match on May 24 against Ostrava.
