Škoda Auto launches website for car owners affected by emissions scandal

The Czech car maker Škoda Auto, which belongs to Vokswagen AG, has launched a website allowing owners to check if their cars are affected by the current emissions scandal. Skoda said earlier that 1.2 million of its vehicles were equipped with the TDI engine that manipulated emissions data.

As of this week the owners of six Skoda models with a diesel engine made between 2009 and early 2015 can ascertain if their car is one of those due to be refitted with engine management software. They can do so by simply entering the vehicle’s VIN code at http://go.skoda.eu/servisakce, or else call Škoda’s toll-free information helpline (800 600 000). If the company confirms that their car is one of those containing the ”defeat device” software the owner will get follow up instructions on what happens next and who to contact about a suitable servicing date.

According to information released by Škoda the fraudulent software was fitted into some of the following models - Fabia II (between 2009 and 2014) Roomster (2009 to 2015) Rapid (2011 to 2015), Yetti (2009 to 20015) Octavia II (2009 to 20013) and Superb II (2009 and 2013). The owners of all these models (with diesel engines only) are advised to contact Škoda for more information on free servicing.

All vehicles affected by the scandal will be recalled and re-fitted with new software free-of-charge. Volkswagen is expected to present the relevant technical solution and measures taken in the course of October as well as advising owners about servicing dates. According to inside sources several possible solutions are being considered from software and hardware adjustments to a complete replacement of some vehicles.
