Senators to draft law on automatic salary adjustments for politicians

Czech senators will draft a bill to set automatic salary adjustments for politicians and present it to the new post-election Chamber of Deputies, Senate President Miloš Vystrčil (Civic Democratic Party) announced. The issue has been a subject of bitter political debate in bboth houses of the Czech parliament foor the past few months. Vystčil's initiative follows President Petr Pavel’s veto of a government bill that would raise top officials’ salaries by nearly 7% this year. Vystrčil believes the veto will not be overturned in the lower house. Opposition ANO Party insists on freezing salaries, while critics accuse it of using the issue for political gain. Vystrčil aims to reach consensus among Senate factions to establish a long-term solution.
