Senate’s foreign committee supports Finland and Sweden’s NATO application
The Czech Senate’s Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defense and Security on Tuesday unanimously supported the accession of Finland and Sweden to NATO. The Upper House of Parliament is due to decide on the proposal on Wednesday. The two Nordic countries decided to apply to join NATO because of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
In July, representatives of the 30 NATO member states signed accession protocols for the two Nordic countries, taking a major step towards their admission to the alliance. Before the countries formally join the Pact, the accession protocols have to be ratified by all allies. In Czechia, they must be approved by both chambers of parliament and signed by the President.
