Senate to honour memory of General Alois Eliáš, protectorate PM executed by Nazis

Chairman of the Senate, Miloš Vystrčil and vice-chairman Jiří Drahoš will honour the memory of General Alois Eliáš, the only head of government of an occupied state to be executed by the Nazis 81 years ago for collaborating with the resistance.

Eliáš, who had fought in the Czechoslovak Legions in the first world war, was appointed prime minister during the occupation of Bohemia and Moravia in WWII.

His fate is commemorated by a plaque on the Kolovrat Palace, which used to be the seat of the Protectorate government led by Eliáš and is now part of Senate.
