Senate chair appeals for decency and solidarity in facing challenges of 2022
The Speaker of the Senate Miloš Vystrčil appealed for decency and solidarity in tackling the challenges that the country faces in the New Year.
In his New Year's speech, Senator Vystrčil said the country will need to deal with the coronavirus epidemic, inflation and a steep budget deficit. He called on Czechs to stick together and display the same kind of solidarity they had shown in the wake of the tornado that devastated seven Moravian villages in 2021.
The head of the upper chamber also welcomed the smooth and dignified transfer of power after last year's parliamentary elections. Prime Minister Petr Fiala is expected to address the nation on Saturday evening.
