Salvation Army clinics for homeless people face doctor shortages

Czech Salvation Army clinics providing healthcare for homeless people are struggling with doctor shortages and limited funding, the organisation said on Wednesday. Its Prague clinic has just one doctor this year, compared with two last year. The number of treatments has consequently fallen by around 31 percent, from 3,384 to 2,322 over the same period. The organisation stressed that demand has not declined. Health insurers cover only about a third of the clinics’ costs, leaving them dependent on public funding and donations. The Salvation Army is calling for stable financing, more staff and better access to medicines and follow-up care.
