Russian historian Zubov to teach at Czech university

Russian historian Andrey Zubov, who is a critic of the current government in Russia, is set to teach at Brno’s Masaryk University. The 70-year-old academic has recently been in Finland, which he said he had entered from Russia at the last moment before the border was closed. He said on Facebook he hoped he had only left Russia for a short period.

A spokesperson for Masaryk University said he would conduct a series of lectures on Russian 20th century history.

Mr. Zubov is a long-term opponent of Vladimir Putin and lost his position at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations after condemning Russia’s occupation of Crimea in 2014.
