Ruling coalition prepares to override Senate’s veto of Pandemic Law
The parties of the ruling coalition have indicated they will override the Senate’s veto of an amendment to the Pandemic Law in a new vote in the lower house. The bill was rejected by 32 out of 61 senators present, including senators from the governing parties who proposed the legislation and pushed it through the lower house. According to its critics, part of the draft is in violation of the Constitution. The amended law would give the government greater powers in enforcing restrictions without the need for a state of emergency. In the lower house, the ruling parties have a comfortable 108 seat majority.
