Record 1,164 cases of Covid-19 detected in CR on Tuesday

Some 1,164 fresh cases of Covid-19 were registered in the Czech Republic on Tuesday. This represents a new one-day record and is the first time this figure has surpassed 1,000. The previous record, 796, was recorded on Friday. According to official Ministry of Health data, 234 people with the virus are currently in hospital, with 62 in a serious condition – the highest number since late April. To date 441 people with the coronavirus have died in the Czech Republic.

Prague is one the epicentres of the virus and new measures came into effect in the city on Wednesday. It is now mandatory to wear face masks in shops and shopping centres as well as on public transport, at civil service buildings and at healthcare and social facilities. Bars and restaurants must close at midnight. From next Monday face masks will be compulsory in schools, though not in classrooms.
