President Pavel remains undecided about candidacy for re-election

During a discussion at the Meltingpot forum at Colours of Ostrava, President Petr Pavel avoided confirming whether he will seek a second term. Speaking to moderator Lucie Výborná, he said he did not want to “lay his cards on the table too early.” Pavel admitted that the demanding nature of the job could deter him: “Strength and mental resilience do not increase over time.” He also warned that after the next elections, cooperation in politics could give way to sharper confrontations over key national issues.
