President Pavel addresses MPs on Czechia’s defense readiness

President Petr Pavel spoke this afternoon in the Chamber of Deputies during an extraordinary session called by the opposition ANO movement. The debate focused on the army’s strategic concept amid growing political disagreement over defense policy.

Earlier in the day, lawmakers gathered for another special session to vote on a government proposal to reform the social welfare system, which passed. Other issues on the agenda included housing support, lobbying regulations, and a controversial education bill, which was postponed to the following week. Pavel emphasized that national security should not become a political battleground but rather a space for broad consensus.
