Prague fuel stations adjust to price caps, diesel falls while petrol rises
Fuel stations in Prague have adjusted prices to new government caps introduced at midnight, with diesel becoming slightly cheaper at many pumps while petrol prices often increased. For the first time in recent history, the Finance Ministry is now setting maximum fuel prices fom Tuesday, starting at CZK 49.59 per litre for diesel and CZK 43.15 for petrol—both above earlier weekly averages. Many stations quickly aligned with the ceiling, lowering diesel where it had exceeded the cap but offsetting losses by raising petrol prices to the allowed maximum. Some stations raised prices even without hitting the cap, while a few reduced both fuels. The ministry will now update maximum prices daily, with the next adjustment expected later on Wednesday.
