Powerful storms leave tens of thousands of households without electricity
Roughly 24,000 households were cut off from electricity on Friday morning after storms erupted on Thursday night, with firefighters forced to respond to more than 1,200 emergency calls. Intense rainfall also raised water levels in several rivers, most seriously in the eastern part of the Plzeň Region, where meteorologists have warned of the risk of floods. A similar warning was also issued for the Novohradka river in the Pardubice Region.
Powerful storms are now expected to pass over the east of the country, specifically in the Olomouc and Moravian-Silesian Regions.
