Polish site: PM cancels trip to avoid Babiš

The Polish prime minister, Mateusz Morawiecki, called off a planned trip to Budapest in order to avoid meeting his Czech counterpart, Andrej Babiš, the Polish news site wPolityce.pl reported.

The site said this was intended as a signal to Prague, which has been in conflict with Poland over a mine on the Polish side of their joint border.

Poland has been ordered by the EU to pay huge fines over the Turow mine, which the Czech Republic says is contaminating water on its side of the border.

Mr. Morawiecki had been due to speak at a conference on demographics in the Hungarian capital.
