Police investigate cane attack on Babiš

Andrej Babiš, the leader of the ANO movement's electoral list in the Moravian-Silesian Region, was assaulted during a campaign event in Dobrá, Moravia-Silesia, on Monday afternoon. ANO MP Aleš Juchelka, who witnessed the incident, said a man from the crowd approached Babiš and struck him multiple times on the head and back with a crutch. Police quickly apprehended the attacker and initially classified the offense as disorderly conduct. A woman injured during the altercation received medical attention, and police shared the update via X. Babiš was taken to the hospital for a CT scan. The man who struck Babiš on the head with a crutch during a pre-election rally in Dobrá on Monday is suspected by police not only of disorderly conduct but also of attempted bodily harm. He has not yet been charged.

The attack was widely condemned by politicians across the political spectrum. ANO described it as the outcome of a “campaign of hatred.”
