PM Fiala backs Ukraine aid and security measures ahead of EU summit

Before the informal EU summit in Copenhagen, Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala (Civic Democratic Party) voiced support for several key initiatives. He reiterated Czechia’s backing for the use of frozen Russian assets in Europe to provide loans to Ukraine, but insisted that Russia must ultimately contribute to covering the war’s damage. He further emphasized strengthening the EU’s eastern border and NATO, while supporting joint initiatives to accelerate modern technologies such as the European drone alliance. PM Fiala also welcomed President Petr Pavel’s recent pre-election speech, stressing the importance of his assurance that Czech election results cannot be falsified or manipulated.
