PM to discuss public sector pay demands with union leaders Monday

Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš is due to hold talks with union leaders on Monday over their demands for public sector pay rises. Those negotiations will be followed by a meeting of the tripartite, which brings together representatives of government, employers and unions, to discuss the 2022 state budget.

The head of the Confederation of Trade Unions, Josef Středula, says he expects a pay increase somewhere between the CZK 3,000 a month being demanded by the unions and Social Democrats, and the 3.5 percent rise being discussed by the ANO minister of finance, Alena Schillerová.

Mr. Středula told the Czech News Agency that he felt the two sides were moving closer to reaching agreement.
