PM to address Foreign Ministry reorganisation at coalition meeting
Prime Minister Andrej Babiš says he wants to discuss the planned reorganisation of the Foreign Ministry with Foreign Minister Petr Macinka at Monday’s coalition meeting, he told Deník N.
According to the outlet, the proposal would abolish several departments, including the security and multilateral section, which oversees sanctions, cybersecurity and protection against hybrid threats. The department for global risks and resilience could also be scrapped.
According to some media reports, several senior directors may leave the ministry, and the post of state secretary could also change. Macinka says the reorganisation is comprehensive, prepared with experts, and that no one has been dismissed so far.
The opposition STAN movement has criticised the plans, saying the changes are rushed and lack proper analysis. Former foreign minister Jan Lipavský has gone further, calling the developments the harshest political purge at the ministry since the 1989 revolution.
