Petr Sís awarded Jaroslav Seifert Prize for lifetime work
Czech-born writer, illustrator, and filmmaker Petr Sís has received the Jaroslav Seifert Prize, presented by the Charter 77 Foundation at the French Institute in Prague. The jury, chaired by professor Tomáš Kubíček, praised his lifetime body of work as both profoundly artistic and educational, representing Czech culture internationally. Sís, 72, is one of the most translated Czech authors, alongside Karel Čapek and Jaroslav Hašek. A native of Brno, he studied in Prague and London before settling in New York in the 1980s. His award-winning books have gained global recognition, including the Hans Christian Andersen Award, the highest honor in children’s literature.
