Pavel condemns Russian arrogance at UN Security Council

Czech President Petr Pavel sharply criticized what he called the “hard-to-believe arrogance” of Russia’s representative. Pavel stressed that Moscow has committed war crimes and crimes against humanity, including the abduction and re-education of Ukrainian children, which he described as “a barbaric attempt to steal Ukraine’s future.” The Czech head osf state spoke to journalists in New York after attending a Security Council meetin g and speaking to the General Assembly. Commenting on Donald Trump’s recent statement about U.S. global respect, Pavel noted that the former president’s style generates both hope and unease. He also underlined Czechia’s ambition to join the Council as a non-permanent member in 2032–33. Pavel later traveled to Boston to deliver a lecture at Harvard University, echoing Václav Havel’s 1995 address.
