Parliamentary commission finds no major faults in Charles Universit shooting response
A parliamentary commission has concluded that the integrated emergency response system made no critical errors during the December 2023 shooting at Charles University’s Faculty of Arts, which left 14 dead. However, it identified shortcomings in operational and tactical procedures before the attack. The commission’s report includes recommendations on police equipment, firearm legislation, and information-sharing protocols. Opposition ANO Party disagreed, issuing a counter-report asserting the commission’s findings do not reflect the evidence or its recommendations. Interior Minister Vít Rakušan (Mayors and Independents) stated that many proposed measures, including stricter gun laws and improved registry systems, are already being implemented. Charles University is reviewing the report.
