Parliament to return to fees for Czech Television and Radio
On Wednesday, the Chamber of Deputies (lower house of the Czech Parliament) is set to vote today on a contentious bill raising television and radio fees while expanding the pool of payers. Last week, opposition leaders Andrej Babiš (ANO Party) and Tomio Okamura (SPD Party) blocked progress with lengthy speeches. The government argues the changes will stabilize public broadcasters, while ANO and SPD claim it unfairly burdens citizens. The bill raises ČT fees by 15 CZK to 150 CZK per month and ČRo fees by 10 CZK to 55 CZK, extending charges to internet-capable devices. Critics call it a “tax on the internet.”
