Outgoing cabinet of PM Fiala holds last session

The outgoing cabinet of Prime Minister Petr Fiala is due to meet for its final session on Wednesday. It is due to debate proposed amendments to the Budget Responsibility Act—proposing that future spending limits follow the EU’s net-expenditure rule rather than structural-deficit ceilings as well as a new national vaccination strategy. Next Monday, President Petr Pavel will appoint ministers from the new coalition government of ANO, SPD and the Motorists’ party led by incoming Prime Minister Andrej Babiš .

With the cabinet in place, Babiš will be able to attend the European Council meeting scheduled for 18–19 December. Before Christmas, he also plans to convene two cabinet sessions. The incoming government has said it will draft its own budget, as the coalition parties are dissatisfied with the version submitted by the outgoing administration of Prime Minister Petr Fiala (Civic Democrats).
