Opposition demands government resignation over controversial bitcoin donation

Opposition ANO Party and Direct Democracy Party will call for the government’s resignation during a special parliamentary session on Thursday, citing a scandal involving donated bitcoins. If the demand fails, they plan to initiate a vote of no confidence, said deputy leaders Karel Havlíček (ANO) and Radim Fiala (Direct Democracy Party) on Czech TV. The controversy involves the Justice Ministry’s handling of bitcoins donated by a man convicted of embezzlement and drug trafficking. Deputy Speaker Jan Skopeček (Civic Democratic Party) dismissed the move as political theatre ahead of October’s elections. Even some coalition MPs are expected to support convening the session.
